Happy Sunday lovelies!
On our hair journeys, one unavoidable outcome is that you become a product junkie. There are so many great hair products out there and so many people raving about this conditioner or that moisturizer that over time you find that you have enough hair products for 5 people.
And there isn't anything wrong with that. I'm not here to judge.
My question is, where do you draw the line? What are the products you refuse to touch with a 39 1/2 foot pole?
For me, I simply refuse to use Pink Oil moisturizer in any capacity. My childhood memories are filled with my mom doing my hair and asking "why is your hair so dry?" as placed even more of that hell in a bottle on my hair. That is enough motivation for me to keep that mess far away from my hair.
The second product is Dr. Miracle's anything. I tried that line way before my hair journey (think 2005/2006) and nothing in that line is worthwhile. Yeah it has that whole 'tingling' thing to make you think it is working but it does absolutely NOTHING for your hair! I recommend that line to nobody. It is complete trash.
Other than that, everything else is pretty negotiable. What are your products that you refuse to use?
Gooooooooood question! I am pretty anti mineral oil moisturizers in general. I feel like if I were in a blind study, I'd be able to identify if that is a main ingredient based on how my hair feels. I'm also anti Dr. Miracles but here recently I'm completely anti Miss Jessie's. That overpriced conditioner made my hair feel the worst its felt in IDK how long and I know for a fact if I weren't "educated" about HHJ's via blogs and forums, I would've thought it HAD to be the best because of its popularity and price. #wrong
ReplyDeleteYasss! You are so right about Miss Jessie's! I had a free sample of one of her samples a few months back ( I think it was the condish) and I was not impressed! Like if I had to pay for it, I would have been mad. Miss Jessie's charges way too much for a subpar product.
DeleteI am also very much anti Dr Miracles! I avoid it like the plague. also not a fan of mineral oil "moisturizers" although I must say that I've been using the ORS Olive Oil Moisturizing Lotion and it does contain mineral oil(nr 4 or 5 on the ingredients list) and it's not too bad, but I use a little that I mix with some water to up the moisture quotient. The result being that my hair feels really moisturized and the bottle lasts FOREVER! And I do not have any issues with true value for money, lol. I also tend to stay very far away from Soft'n'Free products, I have ONLY ever been disappointed whenever I tried ANYTHING from their range.
ReplyDeleteIt makes you wonder why mineral oil moisturizers are so popular in 'ethnic' hair care. As we all can see, they are of no benefit to our hair.
DeleteI can't say that I ever tried Soft 'n' Free products but I will take your work and steer clear of them!
I am definitely one of those people with the tones of products. When I first started my hair journey I tried a lot of the products people raved about some worked and some didn't.
ReplyDeleteEarly last year I bought a product after someone said it was good that was the last product.
Happily now I only use what works for me all staples. I just need to find someone to give these things away to lol.
My products I will not use, blue magic ( that's hell) motions hair grease or any thing with mineral oil. Also to add to the list Scurl ( This product really didn't work on my hair at all)

Lol @ your Blue Magic comment!
DeleteI'm not a fan of Motions products either (the only exception is the wrap lotion and even that is touch and go). Not surprised about SCurl...folks either love it or absolutely hate it lol
I can handle mineral oil in deep conditioners, but not in moisturizers at all!!!! It feels awfully dry whenever I do! I also hate gel with a passion, even before my hhj...
ReplyDeleteI have had that experience with a lot of mineral oil moisturizers! They definitely do the opposite of what they are supposed to do smh.
DeleteThe ORS line. My hair and the ORS line have a hate hate relationship. From the ORS edge controls to the replenishing conditioner. I just haven't had any luck with it. Oh and I'm not sure if you've heard of this product, but my old hair dresser used to drench my hair in pump it up and it would take about 2 weeks to get that stuff out of my hair. I shudder even thinking about how stiff it made my hair!
ReplyDelete:gasp: Not ORS!! I love that line!!! Nah. Everything doesn't work for everybody. It happens.
DeleteOh that dreaded Pump It Up....makes your hair rock hard and stinks like you wouldn't believe. Yeah. I'm familiar with it lol.
